Crude oils have a propensity to separate into the heavier and lighter phases. The heavy ends that separate from the crude oil and that deposited on the bottoms of storage vessels are known as “sludge.” It is a combination of hydrocarbons, sediment, paraffin and water. Sludge is thick, soft, wet mixture of liquid and solid components. Slurry is a thin, sloppy, wet mixture of liquid and solid components.
FORSTEK developed a hydrocarbon based chemical mixture that reduces oily sludge kinematic viscosity by more than 50%, which makes it movable and transportable, and easier for further distillation process. The additive dosage ranges between 3-5%, and gets a highly effective drop in viscosity.
The 2nd formula was developed for Slurry oil mixtures, where water contents exceeded 60%. The water-oil separation reached to over 95%. The separated water can be reused or safely discharged to the environment, due to containing low hydrocarbon of less than 20ppm, which means that separated water can be used reused or safely discharged to environment.
Both the Sludge and Slurry Treatment additives are composed of materials, that are environmentally save. The operational process is highly cost effective, as it depends on collecting the sludge in major tanks or contained areas, adding the additives and mixing at ambient temperature (no heating consumption is needed).
