Naphthenic acid has become the main issue in refineries’ units, as it is one of the factors that contributes to the corrosion problem. High value of Total Acid Number (TAN) leads to highly acidic crude oils, which thereby affects the quality of oils produced and contributed to the low performance of operations unit. This leads to high maintenance costs, and may create environmental disposal problems. So far, no research has been done to manufacture a specific chemical base solution and an effective catalyst to remove the naphthenic acids in crude oils.

Product Description
A specially formulated chemical additive that was developed as a solution for high acidity problems, faced by one of our customers working in manufacturing Tire Pyrolysis Oil (TPO). The solution developed by FORSTEK Industries Inc. technical team, was able to resolve the high acidity problem, and reduce the TAN number in in pyrolysis oil from 9.8 Koh mg/g to 1.6 Koh mg/g. The same product is currently being tested on acidic naphthenic crude oil, applying similar methodology used in pyrolysis oil.
Real Live Case
The successful chemical additive solution applied through simple mechanical process of “ADDING, MIXING, and RESTING “. The TAN reduction ranged between 70-90% in some cases. Additives dosage ranged between 1% -3%, which makes it a cost-effective solution to reduce major causes of corrosion.
-Similar results are expected to be obtained when applied on acidic naphthenic crude oil.
